{"id":10336,"date":"2010-09-29T15:25:47","date_gmt":"2010-09-29T22:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=10336"},"modified":"2010-09-29T15:25:47","modified_gmt":"2010-09-29T22:25:47","slug":"trek-or-treat-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2010\/09\/trek-or-treat-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Trek Or Treat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Halloween is approaching, and some <em>Star Trek<\/em> fans like to step out to parties dressed as their favorite<em> Star Trek<\/em> character.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Howard Beige<\/strong>, executive vice president of Rubie&#8217;s Costume Company, shares details on planning of and the making of<em> Star Trek<\/em>-themed costumes.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The first thing is to decide which costume to make. &#8220;Once we&#8217;ve got a direction, an idea, and can say, for example, &#8216;We want to make a Mr. Spock costume from the original TV series,&#8217; we look at reference materials that show us what the costume looks like and all, showing us the unique elements of the outfit and create a concept drawing with actual fabric swatches. After the sketch stage we go into making an actual prototype of the outfit and then put the costume into production.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/HalloweenCostume092810.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-10337\" title=\"HalloweenCostume092810\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/09\/HalloweenCostume092810.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"124\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a>The adult costumes sell all year-round and according to Beige, a normal production run for each costume varies. &#8220;It depends on the popularity,&#8221; he said, &#8220;but a normal cutting for us, a normal production run, is between four thousand and ten thousand of a particular style.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For 2010, Trek costumes have been added for a new age group, babies. &#8220;For 2010, we&#8217;ve actually added \u2013 believe it or not, in infant and newborn sizes \u2013 the classic Captain Kirk and classic Mr. Spock costumes.
