If Tim Russ<\/strong> had his way, fans would see more of their favorites in the next Star Trek<\/strong> movie.<\/p>\n

When asked in an interview what approach he would take for Star Trek XII<\/em>, Russ said that the answer was to go forward, not backward in time. “I would do a parallel timeline,” said Russ, “go forward in sort of a renegade style.”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Russ went on to explain why he wanted the new movie to take that direction. “I would bring in a number of characters from the each of the other series, as long as the timeline is consistent,” he said. “I would rather do something like that than a prequel. That way you could bring in characters from The Next Generatio<\/em>n like Patrick Stewart<\/strong>. There would be Kate Mulgrew<\/strong> from Voyager<\/em>, any number of crew members from Voyager<\/em>. I would bring in Deep Space Nine<\/em> characters, too. Any one of [those characters] would be a kick for the fans. They all have their favorites and each has its fan base. I’ve certainly learned that.”<\/p>\n

Another question in Russ’s interview concerned his time on Star Trek: Voyager<\/em>. “What reaction, if any, did you experience when fans first saw Tuvok?” he was asked.<\/p>\n

“You mean that he was black? It really was a non-issue,” said Russ. “Gene Roddenberry<\/strong> always liked to shake things up, depart from the norm. That was the whole premise of Star Trek<\/em>. We did that with Voyager<\/em>. We had a female captain and a black Vulcan. Every version of the series had something unusual and unique. The other aspect, from a purely anthropological standpoint, is that not every one on Earth looks the same. Mongolians and Chinese and Russians all live in Asia but don’t look the same. And that’s pretty much what you have in Voyager<\/em>. I just made sure that I played the Vulcan role up to the standard that people expected, and I think I did that. The issue of color never came up.”<\/p>\n
