Mr. Salmond accepted the membership with a spokesperson for the First Minister responding. “Mr. Salmond is delighted to boldly accept what no First Minister has accepted before. As a devotee of Star Trek<\/em> since its earliest episodes, and a fan of Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Uhura in particular from the original series, he is happy to add his name to the ranks of Starfleet members worldwide.”<\/p>\n Like all Starfleet members, Salmond will receive his membership ID card and certificate, according to Starfleet’s press release. Salmond will also receive “six issues of Starfleet’s bi-monthly Communiqu\u00e9 publication mailed to him in Scotland. In addition, Salmond will be eligible to “vote in any and all upcoming Starfleet elections while he is a member, and access to Starfleet’s online chat lists.” Salmond will also be able to “avail himself of all of Starfleet’s resources; including over a thousand online correspondence courses within Starfleet Academy and the extensive data libraries of the Department of Technical Services, which has information on nearly every starship ever designed or constructed.”<\/p>\n Salmond isn’t the first celebrity or politician to be revealed as a Star Trek <\/em>fan.
