{"id":11128,"date":"2011-01-14T11:50:17","date_gmt":"2011-01-14T19:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=11128"},"modified":"2011-01-14T11:50:17","modified_gmt":"2011-01-14T19:50:17","slug":"majel-the-tiger-cub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2011\/01\/majel-the-tiger-cub\/","title":{"rendered":"Majel The Tiger Cub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The San Diego Zoo has named one of a pair of twin Sumatran tiger cubs after <strong>Majel Barrett-Roddenberry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The cub, born in October, was named in honor of Roddenberry, said <strong>Rod Roddenberry<\/strong>, son of Majel. &#8220;For those who do not know, my mother was a staunch animal supporter,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Her favorites were cats, large or small &#8230; her passion for them knew no bounds.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/MajelCubTop1-14-11.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11129\" title=\"MajelCubTop1-14-11\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/MajelCubTop1-14-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"134\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>&#8220;It is our understanding that &#8216;Majel&#8217; will be on display at the San Diego Zoo for the next few months,&#8221; explained Roddenberry in a newsletter on his website. &#8220;Her future home is uncertain as these cats are endangered and are sent to other animal sanctuaries throughout the world in an effort to promote and revive the species. In a recent report, &#8216;Majel&#8217; was described as being &#8216;Ms. Independent&#8221;&#8216; and &#8216;Vocal.&#8217; &#8220;She frequently is the first to go off and explore her area and loves to play tug-o-war with the keepers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tiger cubs Majel and Joanne were born to parents who were genetically matched.
