{"id":11767,"date":"2011-04-12T11:27:12","date_gmt":"2011-04-12T18:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=11767"},"modified":"2011-04-12T11:27:12","modified_gmt":"2011-04-12T18:27:12","slug":"crispin-writing-for-star-trek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2011\/04\/crispin-writing-for-star-trek\/","title":{"rendered":"Crispin: Writing For Star Trek"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The author of several <em>Star Trek<\/em> books, <strong>Ann Crispin<\/strong> found that her knowledge of <em>Star Trek<\/em> acquired from being a fan of the original series came in handy when it came to writing Trek tie-in stories.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was a <em>Star Trek<\/em> fan from the early days of the show,&#8221; Crispin explained. &#8220;I&#8217;d watched all of the episodes many times. I had read many of the novels and all of the<strong> James Blish<\/strong> novelizations. So I knew <em>Star Trek<\/em> inside and out when I wrote <em>Yesterday&#8217;s Son<\/em> on a whim.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/CrispinAnn041211.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11768\" title=\"CrispinAnn041211\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/CrispinAnn041211.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"104\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>That familiarity with the Trekverse made her research a little easier too. &#8220;I did some research to write the book, mostly about arctic terrain and survival in arctic regions,&#8221; she said. &#8220;But since I used established settings, mostly I only wrote about what I already knew from watching the show for all those years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Why did Crispin want to write a story about Spock? &#8220;From the beginning I was fascinated &#8211; pardon the pun &#8211; by Mr. Spock and Vulcan,&#8221; she said. &#8220;As a child of the 60&#8217;s, the idea that Vulcans were strong, and capable, anything but wimps, yet their entire planet embraced pacifism, really inspired me.
