Author Scott Tipton has written numerous<em> Star Trek<\/em> comics. His award-winning website, comics101.com, was named one of <em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em>&#8216;s &#8216;100 Greatest Websites.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/StarTrekVault052311.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12897\" title=\"StarTrekVault052311\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/StarTrekVault052311.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"138\" \/><\/a>In the video preview, some of the extras included with the book can be seen. The extras include the following removable reproductions: on-set signage, blueprints for Captain Picard&#8217;s chair, stickers for the 1979 trading card set (Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the Enterprise), the <em>Wrath of Khan<\/em> collectible flag, a Japanese <em>Star Trek: The Voyage Home<\/em> movie poster, concept artwork for Picard&#8217;s robotic Borg arm, script pages from <em>Star Trek: Insurrection<\/em> with hand-written shooting notes, an invitation to the <em>Star Trek: Deep Space Nine<\/em> wrap party, and a reproduction of a Whitman coloring book circa 1968.<\/p>\n<p>Tipton explained what fans can expect from the book. &#8220;The book covers all the television series, including <em>The Animated Series<\/em>, of which I&#8217;m a huge fan,&#8221; he said, &#8220;and the films, and provides for each a brief production history, some critical commentary, the cultural impact, and a look at the merchandising, and does so in a fun, conversational fashion, accompanied by tons of photos and illustrations and reproductions of some of the rarest and most interesting pieces of Trek memorabilia we could find.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Sawyer<\/strong>, an expert on<em> Star Trek<\/em> merchandise, assisted Tipton with the book, helping to select and to photograph merchandise form the original series and for the feature film section of the book. &#8220;I also think the fans are going to be really jazzed with some of the selections we made for the book,&#8221; he said. &#8220;With forty-five years of history, there is a lot of merchandise to choose from. <em>The Vault<\/em> takes that long history and filters it all into one beautiful tome, with neat little pull-out items and pictures to supplement Scott\u2019s engaging prose.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Star Trek Vault<\/em> will be released by Abrams in the U.S. on October 1, and by Aurum Press in the UK on October 6.
