Dayton Ward<\/strong>, co-author of Vanguard: What Judgments Come<\/em>, talks about this first part of the finale to the Vanguard series and the approaching end of the Vanguard<\/em> series.<\/p>\n

Vanguard: What Judgments Come<\/em> (due out next week) and Vanguard: Storming Heaven<\/em> (due out next March) will complete the Vanguard<\/em> series and that was always the plan. “…David Mack, Kevin<\/strong> (Dilmore<\/strong>) and I are getting to do something that’s never really been done before: bring to a planned conclusion one of the novel spin-off series,” said Ward. “From the start, Vanguard<\/em> has had a definitive endgame in mind, though specific details about how to get there were always left nebulous.”<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The authors wished to wrap up the series and to give it a definitive ending, before events worked against them. “As the story has evolved over the five previous novels, it became apparent that it was time to start the process of wrapping things up, and to do so before the series began to overstay its welcome, or was abruptly canceled due to dwindling sales or a change in editorial agenda or vision,” said Ward. “It was actually a very tough sell, first to our editor at Pocket Books, and then to CBS Consumer Products.”<\/p>\n

In What Judgments Come<\/em>, “The Shedai, awakened from their slumber, are not pleased by Starfleet’s actions. Meanwhile, Ambassador Jetanien comes to the realization that his peace efforts may have been undermined all along. And, elsewhere, exiled former Vanguard<\/em> commander Diego Reyes may be Starfleet’s last hope for stopping the Shedai.”<\/p>\n

The novel will “resolve a few character arcs,” said Ward, but will also “light the fuse for what will be the climactic finish in Storming Heaven<\/em>. There’s even a shared framing sequence that starts and ends both books. Though Storming Heaven<\/em> will pick up precisely where What Judgment Comes<\/em> leaves off, Dave, Kevin and I made sure that each book tells its own story while at the same time working together to provide something of a “feature-length series finale episode” feel.”<\/p>\n

Star Trek: Vanguard: What Judgments Come<\/em> will be released on September 27 in two formats: a mass-market paperback, and an eBook. Written by Ward and Kevin Dilmore<\/strong>, What Judgments Come<\/em> is 352 pages long and will sell for $7.99.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
