{"id":12997,"date":"2011-09-30T13:08:34","date_gmt":"2011-09-30T20:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=12997"},"modified":"2011-09-30T13:10:56","modified_gmt":"2011-09-30T20:10:56","slug":"orci-and-johnson-new-trek","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2011\/09\/orci-and-johnson-new-trek\/","title":{"rendered":"Orci And Johnson: New Trek"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Writers <strong>Mike Johnson<\/strong> (<em>Star Trek #1<\/em> comic) and <strong>Roberto Orci<\/strong> (<em>Star Trek XI<\/em>) share their thoughts on the new <em>Star Trek<\/em> production; including <em>Star Trek XI<\/em>, the comics based on the Abrams&#8217; <em>Star Trek<\/em> crew, and<em> Star Trek 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Once <em>Star Trek XI<\/em> hit the movie screens, co-writer Orci found out that the reaction to the film was diverse &#8211; with some loving the new take on the original series and others not happy with some of the events of<em> Star Trek XI<\/em>. &#8220;I\u2019d like to say I was surprised [by the reactions], but as a fan I was going through all of those reactions myself as we came up with the story and how to revisit the characters for the new movie,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The only surprise was how well-received it was.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Johnson explained what readers will see in the new series of <em>Star Trek<\/em> comics, based on the Abrams&#8217; Trek world. &#8220;The first few issues of the series are adaptations of TOS episodes, as the &#8216;new&#8217; crew encounters some of the same threats the original crew did, but with differences that reflect things like Kirk being a younger captain and Spock losing his homeworld,&#8221; he said. &#8220;As we get closer to the next movie, the stories will begin to foreshadow the events of the movie, such as possibly introducing new characters we will see onscreen&#8230;pun very much intended.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Re-visiting original episodes in the new timeline is great for two <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/OrciSmall1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-13004\" title=\"OrciSmall\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/OrciSmall1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"113\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>reasons,&#8221; said Orci. &#8220;First, we can do things we can\u2019t do in the movies, simply because we don\u2019t have the time to explore so many different adventures in the course of one film. And second, it\u2019s so much fun to revisit the classic stories.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Orci also spoke about progress on<em> Star Trek XI<\/em>I. &#8220;The cast is excited,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We have a director. We&#8217;ve started scouting locations. The second time around the crew is already together from the start, so we can jump right into the adventure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/TrekOngoing-1-0920112.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12999\" title=\"TrekOngoing-1-092011\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/TrekOngoing-1-0920112.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"98\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><em>Star Trek #1<\/em> is already on newsstands, with <em>Star Trek #2<\/em> to follow this month. Both issues are based on the<em> Where No Man Has Gone Before<\/em> original series episode. Issues #3 and #4 will be based on <em>The Galileo 7<\/em>.
