{"id":13254,"date":"2011-11-01T10:51:36","date_gmt":"2011-11-01T17:51:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=13254"},"modified":"2011-11-01T10:51:36","modified_gmt":"2011-11-01T17:51:36","slug":"the-be-a-redshirt-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2011\/11\/the-be-a-redshirt-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"The Be A Redshirt Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IDW and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) have announced a <em>Star Trek<\/em> &#8220;Be a Redshirt&#8221; contest.<\/p>\n<p>Usually, &#8220;being a redshirt&#8221; on the original series was apt to be hazardous, and while the same will hold true for the redshirt in this contest, there is a prize that makes it worth the inevitable phaser blast.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/BeARedshirt110111.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13255\" title=\"BeARedshirt110111\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/BeARedshirt110111.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"92\" \/><\/a>The grand prize in the &#8220;Be a Redshirt&#8221; contest will be a comic book cover appearance for the winner. The winner will be featured on an exclusive variant cover of an upcoming <em>Star Trek<\/em> comic in the newly-launched <em>Star Trek (2009)<\/em> universe, and &#8220;in true Redshirt fashion, will fall victim to a phaser blast in the midst of heroically saving [his or her comic book] retailer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As redshirts are famous for always catching the phaser in <em>Star Trek<\/em> episodes, and as comic fans can be so loyal in defending their local retailer, it&#8217;s the perfect contest,&#8221; said <strong>Dirk Wood<\/strong>, IDW\u2019s Director of Retailer Marketing. &#8220;And, partnering with the CBLDF is perfect because no one knows more about defending retailers than they do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The cover art featuring the winner will be done by the Sharp Brothers (Joe and Rob).<\/p>\n<p>To enter the contest, which begins tomorrow, fans will have to do a bit of writing.
