Abrams<\/strong> was looking at Hawaii as a possible location for part of <em>Star Trek 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/2011\/11\/trek-2-to-begin-filming-in-january\/\">TrekToday<\/a> last week, Hawaii was under consideration as a locale for a &#8220;jungle planet&#8221; in <em>Star Trek 2<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Hawaii112111.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13392\" title=\"Hawaii112111\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Hawaii112111.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"118\" \/><\/a>According to Honolulu Film Commissioner <strong>Walea Constantinau<\/strong>, production scouts visited Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island in late summer. &#8220;The filmmakers were interested in shooting here,&#8221; said Constantinau. &#8220;[The movie] was at a very early stage. They are not ready. It is still in development. Everybody got all excited about something that is exploratory.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/trekmovie.com\/2011\/11\/20\/hawaii-film-commissioners-in-discussions-with-paramount-on-star-trek-sequel\/\">TrekMovie.com<\/a> has reported that not only did scouts go to Hawaii last summer, but Constantinau and Hawaii Film Commissioner <strong>Georja Skinner<\/strong> recently visited Los Angeles to &#8220;meet with a number of studios regarding possible productions in Hawaii, including a meeting at Paramount about the <em>Star Trek<\/em> sequel.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday&#8217;s Honolulu Advertiser confirmed that J.J.
