Joel Goldsmith<\/strong>, son of Star Trek<\/em> composer Jerry Goldsmith<\/strong>, passed away yesterday at the age of fifty-four.<\/p>\n

Gateworld<\/em> broke the news on their Twitter feed this morning, promising more information later today.<\/p>\n

“Long-time Stargate<\/em> composer Joel Goldsmith has passed away, according to friends. Full story coming later today. Rest in peace, friend.”<\/p>\n

Goldsmith composed for Star Trek: First Contact<\/em> (along with his father), but is best-known to sci-fi fans for his work on Stargate SG-1 <\/em>and Stargate Atlantis<\/em>. He composed music for more than three hundred and fifty episodes in the Stargate<\/em> franchise.<\/p>\n

Three times in his career Goldsmith was nominated for Emmys; in 1998 for Stargate SG-1<\/em>‘s The Nox<\/em>, in 2005 for the main theme to Stargate Atlantis<\/em> and in 2006 for Stargate Atlantis<\/em>‘ Grace Under Pressure<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Goldsmith was the eldest child of Jerry Goldsmith <\/strong>and Sharon Hennagin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
