Early reviews for Star Trek into Darkness<\/em> are emerging and the reviews are good.<\/p>\n Excerpts from several reviews appear below, and there are no spoilers for those trying to avoid them ahead of the movie release.<\/p>\n “The revived Star Trek<\/em> films are shaping up to be the opposite of Christopher Nolan<\/strong>‘s Batman<\/em> tales in that they’re light on bleakness and attitude,” said Time Out<\/em>‘s Dave Calhoun<\/strong>. “There are enough gags (Simon Pegg<\/strong> is fun again as Scotty) and wit (the tension between Kirk and Spock is winning) between darker bouts of space fighting and ship-saving to keep the mood airy and unpretentious.”<\/p>\n “Director J.J. Abrams<\/strong> has followed up his sensational 2009 Star Trek<\/em> reboot with a sparkling 3D sequel,” said The Guardian<\/em>‘s Andrew Pulver<\/strong>. “People are unlikely to charge out of the cinema with quite the same level of glee as they did in 2009; but this is certainly an astute, exhilarating concoction.”<\/p>\n “If this is Abrams’ final frontier, he has left Star Trek<\/em> in a good place, both in the fictional universe and as a franchise,” said Ian Freer<\/strong> of Empire<\/em>. “In some sense, the title is misleading. Into Darkness<\/em> is a blast, fun, funny, spectacular and exhilarating. The rule of great even-numbered Trek movies continues.”<\/p>\n Total Film<\/em>‘s Matthew Leyland<\/strong> calls the movie “fantastic fun,” although “at a certain point, peril-fatigue starts to creep in.<\/p>\n “Abrams’ aim with Into Darkness<\/em> was to mint a standalone adventure, one that welcomed total Trek neophytes at the door.
