Star Trek into Darkness<\/em> did well this weekend, dethroning Iron Man 3<\/em> from the top spot.<\/p>\n

However, the movie fell short of Paramount Pictures’ expectations for the domestic opening.<\/p>\n

Star Trek into Darkness<\/em> took in $84.4 million since it opened on Thursday, finishing ahead of Iron Man 3<\/em> ($35 million), The Great Gatsby<\/em> ($23 million), Pain and Gain<\/em> ($3.1 million), and The Croods<\/em> ($2.7 million).<\/p>\n

Paramount had been expecting larger numbers though, hoping for figures in the $100 million range. Star Trek into Darkness<\/em> had cost $190 million to make.<\/p>\n

The figures for Star Trek into Darkness<\/em> are higher than those from Star Trek<\/em> (2009), by six percent. Ratings are decent too, with 87% at Rotten Tomatoes<\/em> (compare this to 78% for Iron Man 3<\/em>), and an average grade of “A” according to CinemaScore,<\/em> a market research firm.<\/p>\n

Star Trek into Darkness<\/em> is doing very well abroad too, with $80.5 earned this weekend, for a total of $164.6 million earned thus far abroad.<\/p>\n
