Although he has no desire to revisit the franchise, Star Trek<\/em>‘s Colm Meaney<\/strong> enjoyed his time on Star Trek: The Next Generation <\/em>and on Deep Space Nine.<\/em><\/p>\n Meaney had nothing but praise for his time on the show; praising the writing and the schedule flexibility offered by the executive producer. Meaney explained why Star Trek<\/em> is popular. “I’m not a big science fiction fan but I liked the show and the more I did it the more I appreciated the writing \u2013 we could deal with topics such as genetic engineering and homelessness,” he said. “There was always an optimistic element \u2013 it says racism can be eradicated, everyone can get on, and the fact there may still be an Earth in three hundred years’ time is hopeful.”<\/p>\n As much as he liked his time on The Next Generation <\/em>and Deep Space Nine<\/em>, Meaney has moved on from the Star Trek<\/em> franchise. \n“It was generally a really enjoyable show to do,” said Meaney; “the writing was very good and I was fortunate the executive producer agreed to let me go and do films. I was a recurring character on Star Trek: The Next Generation<\/em>, then went to Deep Space Nine<\/em> as a regular. He said if I did the show he’d let me out to do films. I’d disappear for a couple of weeks and do films, which kept me fresh.”<\/p>\n
