Yesterday, TrekToday reported<\/a> on Leonard Nimoy<\/strong>‘s Piers Morgan Live<\/em> appearance;, today there is a video clip from the show.<\/p>\n

In the short clip, Nimoy explains that people today are better informed about the perils of smoking, and that attitudes have changed.<\/p>\n

“The good news now is that people have begun to understand that smoking is dangerous,” he said.<\/p>\n

That wasn’t always the case. In fact, one smoking campaign, explained Nimoy, claimed that “more doctors smoke Camels<\/em> than any other cigarettes.”<\/p>\n

Nimoy was a heavy smoker at one point. “I was smoking a couple packs a day,” he said. “I tell people that I was Olympic championship smoking. If there had been a championship in the addition, I could have qualified. I could smoke in the shower!”<\/p>\n

It didn’t help that smoking was promoted, with organizations like the Army providing free cigarettes to their soldiers, as Nimoy found out during his two years in the service.<\/p>\n

“Today we have a different type of culture, fortunately, and people can be helped to understand that it’s not a good thing to do.”<\/p>\n
