The original series’ Nichelle Nichols<\/strong> will be receiving an award at the Essence 7th Annual Black Women in Hollywood<\/em> luncheon tomorrow.<\/p>\n The Black Women in Hollywoo<\/em>d luncheon “celebrate[s] the top African-American women in the film industry.”<\/p>\n Nichols will receive the Essence Champions Award<\/em>, which celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and honors “legendary performers who served as champions of the Civil Rights Movement.” Other honorees include Cicely Tyson, Diahann Carroll, Jim Brown, Denise Nicholas<\/strong>, and Clarence Williams III<\/strong>.<\/p>\n “I will be receiving Essence Champions’ Award<\/em> on 2\/27 along with other actors who were involved in the Civil Rights Movement,” said Nichols on her Facebook<\/em> page. “This award recognition celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.<\/p>\n “I’ll be receiving the award during Essence’s 7th annual Black Women in Hollywood<\/em> Luncheon.
