A new feature-length fan film will be set in the world of Star Trek: Enterprise<\/em>, after the fourth season of the prematurely-cancelled series.<\/p>\n In Star Trek: Horizon<\/em>, “the Coalition of Planets, a young alliance of worlds led by Earth, is at war with the Romulan Empire,” and “forms an alliance with T’mar, a Romulan deserter, in the hopes that she can provide valuable intelligence on her former masters.”<\/p>\n The crew of the NX-04 Discovery is captained by Captain Harrison Hawke, who took command of the ship just as the war with the Romulan Empire began.<\/p>\n “Star Trek: Horizon<\/em> is a feature-length film, made by fans in love with Star Trek<\/em>, that is set during the time of Enterprise<\/em> (the fifth Star Trek<\/em> series). It is our goal to create a feature film that is worthy of the name Star Trek and that can close out the story threads that were left hanging after Enterprise<\/em>‘s untimely cancellation in 2005.”<\/p>\n Tommy Kraft<\/strong>, the filmmaker behind Star Trek: Horizon<\/em>, explained how the project came to be and what fans can expect from the movie.<\/p>\n TrekToday:<\/strong> When you decided to get out of game development, why did you choose to develop short films instead?<\/em><\/p>\n Kraft:<\/strong> Game development was always more of a hobby for me. I was never able to find the passion that I have with film that allows me to sink my entire life into a project for years on end, as I have with Horizon<\/em>. I absolutely love a good video game that tells a good story, so who knows, I could end up doing that again someday!<\/p>\n TrekToday:<\/strong> After almost a dozen other films, why did you decide upon Star Trek as a topic?<\/em><\/p>\n Kraft:<\/strong> I’ve always been a dreamer and a huge sci-fi fan. As a very young kid I’d watch Star Trek<\/em> and it would captivate me so much with all of the amazing possibilities and ideas it presented. Until now, I never felt I had the experience to do a feature film justice, let alone a Star Trek<\/em> feature film.<\/p>\n TrekToday:<\/strong> Why did you go with the time frame of Star Trek: Enterprise instead of one of the more popular Trek televised series?<\/em><\/p>\n Kraft:<\/strong> The answer is kind-of similar to why I chose to do a Star Trek<\/em> fan film. Around a year and a half ago, I was going through a very hard time. Having not watched Enterprise<\/em> since it first aired, I decided to start watching it again. It was like an entirely new show to me, and I absolutely fell in love with it. It became my favorite Star Trek<\/em> series, and was actually quite instrumental in changing my life and helping me find myself. Not only do I think Enterprise<\/em> told some great stories, but it has great personal meaning to me as well, which is a combination that has given me endless inspiration to keep working on this project day-and-night for the past year.<\/p>\n TrekToday<\/strong>: What do you expect fans to take away from Star Trek: Horizon?<\/em><\/p>\n Kraft:<\/strong> Hopefully, they’ll come away feeling like they’ve just experienced a classic Star Trek<\/em> story that not only builds on what has come before, but finishes storylines that Enterprise didn’t get a chance to when they were cancelled. I wanted to tell an emotional story, an action-packed story, and a moral story, and I think I’ve hit upon a script that manages to do all of those things quite well.<\/p>\n TrekToday:<\/strong> What will be the next project, after Star Trek: Horizon?<\/em><\/p>\n Kraft:<\/strong> Honestly, I’m not sure yet. I’ve been thinking about a number of things that I’d like to do, but I haven’t made any concrete decisions. I’ve been thinking a lot about doing an original space epic I’ve been writing for the past few years, but my entire life is Horizon right now, so I’ll jump off that bridge when I come to it.<\/p>\n TrekToday:<\/strong> Thank you, Mr. Kraft!<\/em><\/p>\n A Kickstarter<\/em> program will begin within a week or so for Star Trek: Horizon<\/em>, to help fund some of the filming costs. Fans will be able to see the first five minutes of the film when the Kickstarte<\/em>r campaign begins.
