George Takei will receive an award at the 25th Annual GLAAD<\/em> (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards<\/em> ceremony in New York.<\/p>\n

Takei will be receiving the Vito Russo Award<\/em> at the ceremony.<\/p>\n

The Vito Russo Award<\/em> is “presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality. Previous recipients include Anderson Cooper, Ricky Martin, Rosie O’Donnell, Alan Cumming, Cynthia Nixon, Nathan Lane, Cherry Jones, Elton John, k.d. lang<\/strong>, and Tom Ford<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

“Few voices have been as outspoken in support of equality as George Takei,” said Sarah Kate Ellis<\/strong>, GLAAD<\/em> President and CEO.<\/p>\n
