{"id":40493,"date":"2015-04-15T11:46:19","date_gmt":"2015-04-15T18:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=40493"},"modified":"2015-04-15T11:46:19","modified_gmt":"2015-04-15T18:46:19","slug":"inner-light-screenwriter-brooklyn-appearances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2015\/04\/inner-light-screenwriter-brooklyn-appearances\/","title":{"rendered":"Inner Light Screenwriter Brooklyn Appearances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-40495\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/GendelInnerLight041515.gif\" alt=\"GendelInnerLight041515\" width=\"580\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Morgan Gendel<\/strong>, who wrote the<em> Hugo Award<\/em>-winning <em>The Next Generation<\/em> episode<em> The Inner Light<\/em>, will be making several appearances in the New York City area next week.<\/p>\n<p>Gendel will be appearing first at a screening of <em>The Inner Light<\/em> at the <em>Brooklyn Public Library<\/em> on Tuesday, April 21.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The free screening of <em>The Inner Light<\/em> will be followed by a discussion and a question and answer session. Gendel will discuss &#8220;discuss his inspiration for the episode and will tell all about his behind-the-scenes experiences in the <em>Star Trek<\/em> world.&#8221; Afterwards, Gendel will autograph copies of his original writer&#8217;s draft of <em>The Inner Light<\/em> teleplay.<\/p>\n<p>Gendel wrote or co-wrote four Trek episodes, including two from <em>The Next Generation<\/em> (<em>The Inner Light, Starship Mine<\/em>), and two from <em>Deep Space Nine<\/em> (<em>The Passenger, Armageddon Game<\/em>). He has also written more than two hundred episodes of television, including <em>Law &amp; Order, MTV\u2019s Spider-Man, V.I.P.<\/em> and<em> The Dresden Files<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Brooklyn Public Library<\/em> appearance is free to the public and will take place Tuesday, April 21, from 7:00-9:00 PM. Bookstore<\/em> in Brooklyn (18 Bridge Street), where he will answer questions and autograph copies of his writer&#8217;s draft of <em>The Inner Light<\/em>, and issues of <em>The Outer Light<\/em>. <em>The Outer Light<\/em> is &#8220;his graphic novel sequel to the episode recently ranked second of all <em>Star Trek<\/em> episodes across all franchises.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, April 23 at 7 PM, Gendel will be appearing at the B<em>rooklyn Futurist Meetup Livestream Public<\/em> (195 Morgan Avenue), where he will &#8220;use his fan-favorite episode of <em>Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Inner Light<\/em>, as a jumping-off point to discuss the role of the connectome on TV and movies and the real-life implications for Human 2.0.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Clips from <em>The Inner Light, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Total Recall, The Matrix<\/em> and<em> Inception<\/em> will highlight the sci-fi potential for connectome hacks, following which Gendel will draw on the work of <strong>Sebastian Seung<\/strong> of <em>Princeton University<\/em> and others to discuss what could happen when fiction becomes reality. Once we can alter anyone&#8217;s connectome, will mental illness, schooling and personality quirks become a thing of the past?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This appearance will cost $7.00. The workshop will be held at the <em>Made in NY Media Center<\/em>. The cost for this workshop will be $125.00.<\/p>\n<p>In the workshop, &#8220;participants in this day-long workshop will be the &#8216;writers&#8217; in a realistic writers room setting as they create the concept for a new hypothetical sci-fi series. The fundamentals of setting, character and action will be examined with an eye toward how they work together in a compelling screen story.
