William Shatner<\/strong>‘s solution to California’s drought problem is simple, raise money and build a pipeline.<\/p>\n The actor estimates that it would take thirty billion dollars to get the job done.<\/p>\n “California\u2019s in the midst of a four-year-old drought,” he said. “They tell us there’s a year’s supply of water left. If it doesn’t rain next year, what do twenty million people in the breadbasket of the world do? In a place that’s the fifth-largest GDP \u2014 if California were a country, it’d be fifth in line \u2014 we’re about to be arid! What do you do about it?”<\/p>\n What Shatner proposes they do about it is raise the money, build the pipeline and ship some water down to Lake Mead from Oregon or Washington. “So I’m starting a Kickstarter<\/em> campaign,” he said. “I want thirty billion, to build a pipeline like the Alaska pipeline. Say, from Seattle \u2014 a place where there’s a lot of water. There’s too much water. How bad would it be to get a large, four-foot pipeline, keep it above ground \u2014 because if it leaks, you’re irrigating!<\/p>\n “It\u2019s simple,” said Shatner. “They did it in Alaska \u2014 why can’t they do it along Highway 5? This whole area\u2019s about to go under!”<\/p>\n And what do those states think about Shatner’s proposal? Sorry, California. “Our water goes to provide water for people, for businesses and for fish,” said Paul Faulds<\/strong>, water resources manager for Seattle Public Utilities. “We use our water wisely and manage it throughout the season. We’re not being greedy.
