{"id":40974,"date":"2015-06-26T09:15:41","date_gmt":"2015-06-26T16:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=40974"},"modified":"2015-06-26T09:15:41","modified_gmt":"2015-06-26T16:15:41","slug":"trek-actors-get-a-raise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2015\/06\/trek-actors-get-a-raise\/","title":{"rendered":"Trek Actors Get A Raise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-40975\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/SpockKirkUhura062615.gif\" alt=\"SpockKirkUhura062615\" width=\"580\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A last-minute raise was negotiated for the stars of<em> Star Trek 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Plus &#8211;<em> Paramount<\/em> is thinking ahead to <em>Star Trek 4<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The <em>Star Trek<\/em> actors only received &#8220;nominal raises&#8221; to do <em>Star Trek into Darkness<\/em>, and were looking for a better deal for <em>Star Trek 3.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Paramount<\/em> would have preferred to again give only nominal raises, but there were two things standing in the way of that; a potential legal issue, and the rising star power of several of the actors.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the actors and their representatives claimed that since seven years had passed, the original deals were no longer valid as California law dictates that a &#8220;personal services contract cannot bind someone for more than seven years.&#8221; The seven years in question ended in 2014.<\/p>\n<p><em>Paramount<\/em> did not agree with that, and it was possible that legal actions could have been taken by either side.<\/p>\n<p>Plus &#8211; at least two of the stars, <strong>Chris Pine<\/strong>, and<strong>\u00a0Z\u00f6e Saldana<\/strong>, are now more popular and command more these days than when <em>Star Trek (2009)<\/em> or <em>Star Trek into Darkness<\/em> was being made.<\/p>\n<p><em>Paramount<\/em> gave concessions to the actors, including &#8220;hefty raises and better performance bonuses,&#8221; but they wanted something in return. In exchange for the raises for both Pine and Quinto, the studio wanted the pair to grant options for a fourth <em>Star Trek<\/em> movie, and they have done so.<\/p>\n<p>Pine is walking away a big winner, going from $600,000 for<em> Star Trek (2009)<\/em>, to $1.5 million for <em>Star Trek into Darkness<\/em>, and now to more than $3 million dollars for <em>Star Trek 3<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Not a bad deal!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A last-minute raise was negotiated for the stars of Star Trek 3.
