If you’ve not yet donated to the COPD Highly Illogical a Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy<\/em> film, now is the time to do it as the fundraiser ends this weekend.<\/p>\n

The film “provides an intimate look at [Nimoy’s] life, legacy, and his final years confronting a terrible lung disease: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).”<\/p>\n

“Few things are more valuable in life than health, but too often even it is taken for granted,” said Nimoy’s daughter Julie. “One example is the simple pleasure of breathing. The intake of air into our lungs keeps our hearts beating, our blood flowing, and our minds calm. Unfortunately, for millions of people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), breathing is a debilitating act. Experiencing such difficulties breathing when there are treatments available is highly illogical, especially when the primary obstacle is lack of awareness about COPD. How might we empower people NOT to take COPD for granted?”<\/p>\n

When first diagnosed in 2013, Leonard Nimoy<\/strong> “immediately took to social and traditional media to bring this common but often undiagnosed disease to light,” said Julie. “Unfortunately, COPD would take his life before he could use his personality to reach others. This type of outreach and advocacy is sorely needed.<\/p>\n

“COPD affects approximately thirty million Americans and is among the top three killers of people in this country today. More than one out of every three people with COPD endures its crippling symptoms without ever knowing that they have the disease. These facts illustrate the need for early diagnosis. The documentary film COPD: Highly Illogical – A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy<\/em> is an effort by me and my husband, David Knight, to continue my father\u2019s last wish and to advocate for COPD awareness.”<\/p>\n
