Both sides will explore settlement proceedings overseen by a federal magistrate in hopes of resolving the case.<\/p>\n<p>Next week, there will be a hearing where Judge <strong>R. Gary Klausener<\/strong> will consider a defense motion to dismiss the case.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed trial schedule would be as follows, if no settlement or dismissal of the case occurs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jun 8, 2016: Last day to add parties (so-called John Does)<\/li>\n<li>Oct 28, 2016: Fact discovery cut-off<\/li>\n<li>Nov 18, 2016: Initial expert disclosures<\/li>\n<li>Dec 16, 2016: Rebuttal expert disclosures<\/li>\n<li>Jan 27, 2017: Expert discovery cut-off<\/li>\n<li>Feb 13, 2017: Motions due<\/li>\n<li>Apr 24, 2017: Final pre-trial conference<\/li>\n<li>May 9, 2017: Trial begins<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The trial would be expected to last up to fifteen days.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the<em> Language Creation Society<\/em> has filed a &#8220;friend-of-the-court&#8221; brief claiming that Paramount doesn&#8217;t own the Klingon language, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/culture\/2016\/apr\/29\/star-trek-fan-film-klingon-paramount-cbs-lawsuitm\">The Guardian<\/a>. &#8220;Given that <em>Paramount Pictures<\/em> commissioned the creation of some of the language, it is understandable that <em>Paramount<\/em> might feel some sense of ownership over the creation,&#8221; said attorney <strong>Marc Randazza.<\/strong> &#8220;But, feeling ownership and having ownership are not the same thing.
