{"id":43313,"date":"2016-05-09T10:10:34","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T17:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=43313"},"modified":"2016-05-09T10:10:34","modified_gmt":"2016-05-09T17:10:34","slug":"schallert-passes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2016\/05\/schallert-passes\/","title":{"rendered":"Schallert Passes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Actor <strong>William Schallert<\/strong>, best-known to Trek fans for his appearance on an episode of the original series, is dead at the age of ninety-three.<\/p>\n<p>Schallert died on Sunday in Pacific Palisades, California, according to his son Edwin.<\/p>\n<p>With a career spanning decades, Schallert was a familiar face on the television screen. He was best-known for his role as the sitcom father of Patty Duke on <strong>The Patty Duke Show<\/strong>, which ran from 1963-1966. Before that, he was teacher Leander Pomfritt on <strong>The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis<\/strong>. Schallert was a guest star on many shows from the 1950s through the 1990s.<\/p>\n<p><em>Star Trek<\/em> fans remember him as Nilz Baris in <em>The Trouble with Tribbles<\/em>, and Schallert also had a role as the Bajoran musician Varani in the<em> Sanctuary<\/em> episode of <em>Deep Space Nine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Schallert married actress <strong>Rosemarie Diann Waggner<\/strong> (known professionally as <strong>Leah Waggner<\/strong>) in 1949. His wife died last year. The couple had four sons; Edwin, Joseph, Mark and Brendan.
