Fifty years ago, Star Trek<\/em> beamed into living rooms across America, and C|Net<\/em> is celebrating the anniversary with a series of articles on the various shows.<\/p>\n

Trek actors featured in separate articles include John Billingsley, Robert Beltran, Tim Russ, Robert Picardo, Dominic Keating, Jeri Ryan<\/strong>, Michael Dorn<\/strong> and more.<\/p>\n

According to Dorn, Star Trek<\/em> was not the usual 1960s TV fare. “When this came about it was like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was groundbreaking and different.”<\/p>\n

Star Trek<\/em> was “hopeful that we might see a better world where we steward our resources and our conscious is better and we plan for the common good,” said Enterprise<\/em>‘s Dominic Keating<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“It sort of takes the worst problems we have and puts them out into the universe so we can sit in our armchair and say, ‘Oh, those aliens, tsk tsk tsk,'” said John Billingsley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For Deep Space Nine<\/em>‘s Nana Visitor<\/strong>, Star Trek<\/em> wasn’t all about hope, but also about the dark side of life. “The huge message for our show was, ‘Look at this, some of this is ugly,” she said.<\/p>\n

Playing the rebooted Uhura, Zoe Saldana<\/strong> hoped that “as a role model” she would “inspire women and men to feel strong and be strong in their own skin.”<\/p>\n

“Star Trek<\/em> is good for the health of humanity,” said Jolene Blalock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
