In a bit of surprising news, Bryan Fuller<\/strong> will not be the showrunner for CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> show.<\/p>\n

The decision to step away from day-to-day responsibility for the series was made late last week, according to Variety<\/em>. Executive Producers Gretchen Berg<\/strong> and Aaron Harbarts<\/strong> will take on those responsibilities from Fuller.<\/p>\n

“We are extremely happy with the creative direction of Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> and the strong foundation that Bryan Fuller has helped us create for the series,” said CBS Television Studios<\/em> in a statement. “Due to Bryan’s other projects, he is no longer able to oversee the day-to-day of Star Trek<\/em>, but he remains an executive producer, and will continue to map out the story arc for the entire season…Bryan is a brilliant creative talent and passionate Star Trek<\/em> fan, who has helped us chart an exciting course for the series. We are all committed to seeing this vision through and look forward to premiering Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> this coming May 2017.”<\/p>\n

Allegedly, there was “some strain” between Fuller and CBS Television Studios<\/em> over the progress of production on the show, with Fuller being unable to commit enough time to the series which is due to begin production next month in Toronto. Fuller has duties on two other shows; American Gods<\/em> and a reboot of Amazing Stories<\/em>. The premiere of Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> had already been pushed back to May of 2017.<\/p>\n

Casting for the series, with the exception of the lead character (who is said to be a woman) is supposedly complete.<\/p>\n

Fuller, who will remain an executive producer on the series, will still be involved in breaking stories.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
