{"id":44907,"date":"2016-11-23T10:42:50","date_gmt":"2016-11-23T18:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=44907"},"modified":"2016-11-23T10:42:50","modified_gmt":"2016-11-23T18:42:50","slug":"thornton-passes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2016\/11\/thornton-passes\/","title":{"rendered":"Thornton Passes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emmy-winning visual effects expert <strong>Ron Thornton<\/strong> is dead at the age of fifty-nine.<\/p>\n<p>Thornton passed away at his Albuquerque home after a short illness.<\/p>\n<p>The London-born Thornton moved to the U.S. in 1984 where he was soon busy creating props, miniature sets and then computer-generated imagery.<\/p>\n<p>Thornton worked on<em> Star Trek: Voyager<\/em>, where he was nominated for an Emmy for his work, <em>Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,<\/em> and<em> Star Trek: Enterprise<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Other Emmy nominations came for his work on<em> Babylon 5<\/em> (he won for the pilot episode of that series), <em>Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/em>, and<em> Superfire<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Thornton is survived by his wife Lada. A <em>GoFundMe<\/em> page was created in September to help with ongoing medical costs, as Thornton was in-and-out of the hospital this autumn.
