Back in December, TrekToday<\/em> reported<\/a> that The Next Generation’<\/em>s Michael Dorn<\/strong> was set to star in Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra<\/em>; and recently, the actor spoke about the play, explaining why he took on the role.<\/p>\n

“It’s kind of a wild thing,” he said. “I was looking for some change in my career. I love Shakespeare, so doing it was really important to me.”<\/p>\n

In Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra<\/em>, “The victors of Rome\u2019s civil war have divided the Empire amongst themselves and Marc Antony<\/strong> has traveled to exotic Egypt to take up rule over his corner of the globe. There he encounters Egypt’s mysterious monarch, the irresistibly entrancing Cleopatra<\/strong>. Their impassioned affair ultimately pits their two countries against each other and will change the face of the ancient world forever.”<\/p>\n

According to Dorn, Marc Antony is “a guy who has a lot of self-doubt. If you said that to any scholar, they’d say ‘What are you talking about?’ But something profound has happened to him \u2014 he has fallen in love with Cleopatra.”<\/p>\n

Antony and Cleopatra<\/em> will be performed at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center<\/em> in Orlando, Florida. Previews take place March 29-30, and the play will officially open on March 31, running through April 30.<\/p>\n

On April 9, there will be an Evening with Michael Dor<\/em>n, where Dorn will “discuss is life and work with Orlando Shakes<\/em> artistic director Jim Helsinger<\/strong>.” The discussion will be followed by a short Q&A session. The event will take place at 7 PM at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center<\/em> and cost between $30-60. A special $250 VIP ticket will includes drinks and a post-show reception with Dorn.<\/p>\n
