And then the <em>Royal Shakespeare Company<\/em> came to my rescue and offered me two roles, Prospero in <em>The Tempest<\/em> and Antony in <em>Antony and Cleopatra<\/em>, and that season turned the whole tide around. Almost overnight I suddenly found myself a leading actor in the company.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When the role of Professor X came up in <em>X-Men<\/em>, Stewart was a bit hesitant to take on the role initially. &#8220;I was reluctant because the<em> Star Trek<\/em> movies were over and I was already beginning to experience a negative aspect of them,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Close identification, partly through the television series, with one character can discourage directors or producers from wanting to employ you in other means, because the identification&#8217;s so strong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately for Stewart, the roles kept on coming and he has gone on to have busy career.
