Sir Patrick Stewart<\/strong> will be behind the wheel of a race car at the Silverstone Classic, set to take place July 28-30<\/p>\n

The actor has passed his official ARDS<\/em> racing driver test at the Silverstone Motorsport Academy<\/em>, which makes him eligible to compete in a special Celebrity Challenge Trophy Race.<\/em><\/p>\n

“It was a lot of fun,” said Stewart, who passed both written and driving tests required to obtain a MSA<\/em> competition license at Silverstone<\/em>. “For someone who has followed motor racing since being a teenager, to drive around Silverstone<\/em> and negotiate such legendary corners as Becketts and Stowe is just such a thrill.”<\/p>\n

“…When you are behind the wheel of a nice car it’s quite exhilarating to open it up,” Stewart added, “and I am looking forward to the Classic race meeting very much. Everybody has got a little bit of competitiveness and aggression about them, so it will certainly be entertaining!”<\/p>\n

Stewart joins other screen and stage legends including sports stars, film and TV icons and Olympic gold medalists. Some of these include: Olympic gold medalists Mark Hunter<\/strong> MBE, Jason Kenny<\/strong> CBE, Greg Searle<\/strong> MBE, Jonny Searle<\/strong> MBE and Amy Williams<\/strong> MBE; bike racing world champions Wayne Gardner <\/strong>and Freddie Spencer<\/strong>; former England test cricket captain Mike Gatting<\/strong> OBE; Dragon’s Den<\/em> TV star Theo Paphitis<\/strong>, Wheeler Dealers’<\/em> Ant Anstead<\/strong> and adventurer Charley Boorman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
