More details have emerged regarding the departure of Bryan Fuller<\/strong> from Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> last autumn.<\/p>\n

TrekCore<\/em> reported on the news, which came from this week’s Entertainment Weekly<\/em> magazine which featured Star Trek: Discover<\/em>y.<\/p>\n

“Fuller sat with CBS<\/em> executives to deliver his pitch. It wasn’t just for a Trek series but for multiple serialized anthology shows that would begin with the Discovery<\/em> prequel, journey through the eras of Captain James T. Kirk and Captain Jean-Luc Picard, and then go beyond to a time in Trek that’s never been seen before.<\/p>\n

“‘The original pitch was to do for science fiction what American Horror Story<\/em> had done for horror,’ said Fuller. ‘It would platform a universe of Trek shows.’<\/p>\n

“CBS<\/em> countered with the plan of creating a single serialized show and then seeing how it performed. It was a fair compromise, yet demonstrated the first conflict of vision between a powerful company and an inventive writer that would eventually lead to a dramatic falling-out.”<\/p>\n

Part of the problem was timing and being tied up with his other series, American Gods<\/em>. “[CBS<\/em>] executives say there were frustrated that, giving the ticking clock, Fuller was spending so much time on his equally ambitious Starz<\/em> show, American Gods<\/em>, which was simultaneously shooting its debut season.”<\/p>\n
