{"id":47913,"date":"2018-03-05T11:54:01","date_gmt":"2018-03-05T19:54:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=47913"},"modified":"2018-04-13T13:30:23","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T20:30:23","slug":"oscars-2018-star-trek-discovery-connection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2018\/03\/oscars-2018-star-trek-discovery-connection\/","title":{"rendered":"Oscars 2018 Star Trek: Discovery Connection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night,<em> The Shape of Water<\/em> won four<em> Oscars<\/em>, including the big one, the <em>Oscar<\/em> for<em> Best Picture<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Directed by <strong>Guillermo del Toro<\/strong> (who won <em>Best Director<\/em>),<em> The Shape of Water<\/em> is the story of a &#8220;mute custodian at a high-security government laboratory who falls in love with a captured humanoid-amphibian creature.&#8221; The humanoid-amphibian creature was played by <strong>Doug Jones,<\/strong> who portrays Saru on <em>Star Trek: Discovery<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <em>E News<\/em>&#8216; <strong>Giuliana Rancic<\/strong>, Jones spoke about his role in the movie, saying that &#8220;months and years,&#8221; of work went into creating the humanoid-amphibian.<\/p>\n<p>Jones was asked what advice he would give to young people who felt alienated in this world. &#8220;What I have learned as an adult is that you are not alone,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I wasn&#8217;t alone. I wasn&#8217;t the only kid who felt like that&#8230;We all have our insecurities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We all feel like we are the monster in the room that doesn&#8217;t fit in with everyone else.
