A new Facebook Live<\/em> event featured two Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> designers; Neville Page<\/strong> (creature designer) and Glen Hetrick<\/strong> (makeup designer). The duo answered fan questions and showed prototypes of an early Saru.<\/p>\n

Saru’s initial look was very different than what actually made it on-screen. For one, the original concept would have featured a Saru with a larger head and multiple eyes.<\/p>\n

Of interest to the Klingon fans, was discussion on the different look of Klingons on Discovery<\/em>. Of course, it’s not the first time that Klingon design has changed.<\/p>\n

One thing that hasn’t changed is the similar clothing the warrior race wears. That will change going forward. “For us it was super important that when you look at my beloved Klingons from the Next Gen<\/em> and from the TOS movie series, and the way the look evolves, the one thing that always bothered me was that their wardrobe is almost always the same,” said Hetrick. “The look is almost always unified. And so, that was really our biggest goal…If you think about the cultural patina that is on the human species being on this planet for a relatively short amount of time; we’re not even space-faring yet; and how different our cultures look…The Klingon Empire, having all grown up not of course on Qo’noS<\/em> but out on all these different planets; the Houses would look incredibly different. And we are really just starting; wait until you see Season Two. We are really just starting down that road and there is so much more we have developed that hasn’t been unpacked yet.”<\/p>\n

Page and Hetrick promised an alien from classic Trek for Season Two of Discovery<\/em>. They had submitted a list of potential classic aliens, and “one of those things has made it, and it’s a pretty substantial role in Season Two and it is awesome,” said Hetrick.<\/p>\n
