He said, &#8220;Nichelle Nichols not only inspired generations of young women with her pioneering Lieutenant Uhura character in<em> Star Trek<\/em> , but with her activism in space, she helped many women and minority representatives to follow the astronaut career, revolutionizing the American space program.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Fellow original series actor <strong>Walter Koenig<\/strong> won the same award in 1982.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nichelle Nichols won an International Inkpot Award at this year&#8217;s SDCC.
