Michelle Yeoh<\/strong>, Star Trek: Discovery<\/em>‘s Captain Philippa Georgiou, came out in support of James Gunn<\/strong>, who was recently fired as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3<\/em> due to old offensive posts on social media joking about pedophilia and rape.<\/p>\n

In his defense, Gunn claimed that the posts were jokes and he liked to tell ones that would shock people. “Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo,” he said. “As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor.<\/p>\n

“It’s not to say I’m better, but I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger. My days saying something just because it\u2019s shocking and trying to get a reaction are over.”<\/p>\n

Yeoh is the latest Hollywood star to support Gunn. “\u201cI was shocked, horrified that we can allow something like that to happen,” she said. “You’re talking about things that he said in the archives. If he had said it yesterday, or today, or something like this then you can make a big fuss but why dig up something now?”<\/p>\n

She has joined others, including Star Trek Beyond<\/em>‘s Zoe Saldana<\/strong>, in her support of Gunn. Saldana, who played Gamora in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em>, and her fellow actors from that movie, signed a letter in support of Gunn.<\/p>\n
