{"id":49255,"date":"2018-09-27T11:57:49","date_gmt":"2018-09-27T18:57:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=49255"},"modified":"2018-09-27T11:57:49","modified_gmt":"2018-09-27T18:57:49","slug":"stage-9-fan-enterprise-d-recreation-shut-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2018\/09\/stage-9-fan-enterprise-d-recreation-shut-down\/","title":{"rendered":"Stage-9 Fan Enterprise-D Recreation Shut Down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Stage-9<\/em>, a fan-made virtual recreation of <em>The Next Generation<\/em>&#8216;s<em> Enterprise-D<\/em>, has been ordered by <em>CBS Studios<\/em> to shut down.<\/p>\n<p>The virtual recreation was created using an Unreal game engine. Fans could access the recreation using a PC, or the <em>Oculus Rift<\/em> and<em> HTC Vive<\/em> virtual reality headsets. Using these, fans could access different decks and rooms. They could &#8220;interact with objects and even fire a phaser.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-49257\" src=\"https:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Stage9-092718-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Stage9-092718-1.jpg 580w, https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Stage9-092718-1-50x19.jpg 50w, https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Stage9-092718-1-150x58.jpg 150w, https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Stage9-092718-1-300x117.jpg 300w, https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Stage9-092718-1-450x175.jpg 450w, https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Stage9-092718-1-50x19@2x.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I originally created <em>Stage-9<\/em> in 2016 as a piece of fan-art,&#8221; said <strong>Scragnog<\/strong>, head of<em> Stage-9<\/em>. &#8220;To be able to walk around on the <em>Enterprise-D<\/em> always excited me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In spite of making it clear that <em>Stage-9<\/em> was not officially licensed and no money was collected, the project received a cease and desist letter in September. &#8220;We had no affiliation with <em>CBS <\/em>or<em> Paramount<\/em>, said Scragnog, &#8220;and the IP we were trying our hardest to treat with respect was not our own. Nobody involved was ever in it for financial reasons.
