In this week’s episode, Rebecca Romijn<\/strong> will be making her debut as Number One<\/strong>, the character in the original series’ The Cage<\/em>, which was originally played by Majel Barrett<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Romijn has been a fan of Star Trek<\/em> from her early days. “I was a major Trek fan as a child,” she said. “I watched The Original Series with my mom. I lost my mom two years ago, and so being on this set, specifically the set I was on, which I’m not allowed to talk about, made me cry. And it made me think about my mom a lot. It was very emotional.”<\/p>\n

When she got the call to play the role, Romijn eagerly took the invitation to play Number One. “I jumped, because it’s a franchise I’ve always loved, that I’ve always been a viewer of and a fan of,” she said. “With this, with the fandom, which spans decades and is so vast and so huge, you don’t want to let anybody down. There’s added pressure to not let anybody down, especially with a character that’s already so well known to people, though the interesting thing is that people don\u2019t really know much about her.”<\/p>\n

Fans will get to know a bit about Number One in this episode. “I want to help unfold this character because we didn’t get to know enough,” said Romijn in an interview with SyFy<\/em>. “She knows her shit, and I kind of want her to be like, a broad, like a fast-talkin\u2019 dame. It’s slightly period, the Enterprise<\/em> obviously was in the ’60s, and so the look of my character is of that era, slightly, which I love. It’s fun to keep discovering things about a character that we didn’t get to know enough about the first time around.”<\/p>\n

“…She’s got a skill set that goes deep. Captain Pike, obviously, relies on her for a lot. I don’t even think we, in this season, get to know how much she knows. I know that he’s comfortable leaving her in charge of the Enterprise<\/em> when he’s not there. I’m going to stop there because I don’t want to get myself in trouble.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
