McIntyre Passes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Author<strong> Vonda Neel McIntyre<\/strong>, best-known to Trek fans for her Trek novels, has died at the age of seventy of pancreatic cancer.<\/p>\n<p>The death was announced on her<em> CaringBridge<\/em> webpage yesterday by <strong>Jeanne Gomoll<\/strong>. &#8220;Vonda N. McIntyre died at 6:25 pm, Pacific Time, in no pain and surrounded by friends. The funeral home has collected her body which will be cremated. Vonda was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on February 7; her death came swiftly, just short of two months later. Vonda&#8217;s posse and local friends will get together for a brief gathering within the next couple days. A reception that is open to the public will be scheduled within about a month and will be announced here on <em>CaringBridge<\/em> as soon as the details are known. Good-bye, Vonda.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky, McIntyre&#8217;s family eventually moved to Seattle where she eventually attended the<em> University of Washington<\/em> in 1970. She studied genetics in the <em>University of Washington<\/em>&#8216;s graduate school.<\/p>\n<p>In 1971, she helped found the <em>Clarion West Writers Workshop<\/em> in Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>McIntyre won her first<em> Nebula Award<\/em> in 1974 for 1973&#8217;s novelette <em>Of Mist, and Grass, and Sand.<\/em> This novelette later became part of the novel <em>Dreamsnake<\/em> (1978), which won 1979&#8217;s<em> Hugo <\/em>and<em> Nebula Awards.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Star Trek<\/em> fans knew her for her Trek novels, including <em>Enterprise: The First Adventure, The Entropy Effect; Duty, Honor, Redemption<\/em>, and the novelizations of <em>Star Trek II through IV<\/em>.
