At Wondercon<\/em> last weekend, IDW Publishing<\/em> spoke about their new Star Trek: Year Five<\/em> series, and announced a new series based on Star Trek: Discovery<\/em>.<\/p>\n

TrekMovie<\/em> was at Wondercon<\/em>, and attended the Inside the Writers’ Room<\/em> panel for Star Trek: Year Five<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Star Trek: Year Five<\/em> will be the story of the USS Enterprise<\/em>‘s fifth year of the original five year mission. Only three years were shown on television.<\/p>\n

Members of the panel described how they are approaching writing the series. “Star Trek: Year Five<\/em> functions like a writers’ room,” said co-showrunner Jackson Lanzing<\/strong>. “We are going to be rotating each couple of issues to tell stories about things that would operate as a single [episodes] and take you through a season of television. It will be a lot more serialized than The Original Series was, while still hearkening back to what the episode-by-episode storytelling that we love from TOS.<\/p>\n

“To me it is one of the greatest unanswered questions of Star Trek<\/em> canon: how did the five-year mission end? How did we end up where we begin in Star Trek: The Motion Picture<\/em>? How do these characters \u2013 the last time we saw them in season three \u2013 function so strongly as a family and so strongly as a crew. How do we then find them splintered \u2013 particularly with Spock \u2013 at the beginning of The Motion Picture<\/em>?”<\/p>\n

Look for a visit to a Tholian colony, and a visit to Sigma Iotia II (A Piece of the Action<\/em>).<\/p>\n

And the end of the panel, IDW<\/em> editor Chase Marotz<\/strong> announced that in August, a new mini-series about Star Trek: Discovery<\/em> will debut. This mini-series will run for three issues, and will be written by Mike Johnson <\/strong>and Kirsten Beyer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
