{"id":50702,"date":"2019-04-26T12:49:41","date_gmt":"2019-04-26T19:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=50702"},"modified":"2019-04-26T12:49:41","modified_gmt":"2019-04-26T19:49:41","slug":"cbs-and-viacom-nearer-to-merger-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2019\/04\/cbs-and-viacom-nearer-to-merger-talks\/","title":{"rendered":"CBS And Viacom Nearer To Merger Talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <em>Variety, CBS<\/em>&#8216;s board of directions is &#8220;moving closer to initiating acquisition discussions with <em>Viacom<\/em>.&#8221; This comes after settling its own problems, including the removal of CEO <strong>Les Moonves<\/strong>, and a lawsuit against controlling shareholder<strong> Shari Redstone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After the removal of Leslie Moonves as a result of sexual assault allegations, <em>CBS<\/em> began the search for a permanent CEO, but has now settled on <strong>Joseph Ianniello<\/strong>, acting CEO. His contract runs through the end of 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was settled last autumn as part of the negotiations regarding Moonves&#8217; exit from the company.<\/p>\n<p>Potential obstacles to a merger could be <em>Viacom<\/em>&#8216;s &#8220;troubled assets,&#8221; including low-profile cable channels.<\/p>\n<p>Redstone believes that <em>CBS <\/em>and<em> Viacom<\/em> should merge.
