{"id":51185,"date":"2019-07-20T23:39:12","date_gmt":"2019-07-21T06:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=51185"},"modified":"2019-07-20T23:40:58","modified_gmt":"2019-07-21T06:40:58","slug":"cbs-viacom-merger-expected-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2019\/07\/cbs-viacom-merger-expected-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"CBS-Viacom Merger Expected Soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve heard rumors for a while about a<em> CBS-Viacom<\/em> merger and now comes word, via<em> The Hollywood Reporter,<\/em> that this merger could be announced as early as August 8.<\/p>\n<p>Streaming is &#8220;driving the need for <em>CBS<\/em> and <em>Viacom<\/em> to merge: <em>CBS<\/em> needs more content to feed <em>All Access<\/em> and its <em>Showtime<\/em> direct-to-consumer products&#8221; in order to compete with other streaming services such as <em>Amazon, Hulu<\/em>, and <em>Netflix<\/em>, as well as any new services that arrive.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Each company would offset the weaknesses of the other, said <em>S&amp;P<\/em> Global analyst <strong>Naveen Sarma<\/strong>. &#8220;<em>Viacom<\/em> lacks a must-have network, and<em> CBS<\/em> would resolve that.
