Fans of Star Trek: The Motion Picture<\/em>\u00a0 shown on the big screen, rejoice because the film will return to theaters for two days this September.<\/p>\n

Entertainment<\/em> reports that the limited re-release via Fathom Events<\/em> and Paramount<\/em> will be “presented in its original widescreen aspect ratio in more than five hundred theaters and include the behind-the-scenes documentary short The Longest Trek: Writing the Motion Picture<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

This release comes as the 40th Anniversary of the release of the movie (December 7, 1979) approaches.<\/p>\n

Directed by Robert Wise<\/strong>, Star Trek: The Motion Picture<\/em> featured the original cast; William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, Grace Lee Whitney, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry<\/strong>, and George Takei<\/strong>, along with guest stars Persis Khambatta, Stephen Collins, Mark Lenard<\/strong>, and more.<\/p>\n

“Star Trek \u2014 The Motion Picture<\/em> is a visual marvel and a film that even many ardent Star Trek<\/em> fans have never had an opportunity to see on a big screen,” said Tom Lucas<\/strong>, Fathom Events<\/em> Vice President of Studio Relations<\/em>. “Fathom Events<\/em> is honored to celebrate this cinematic classic’s 40th anniversary with this special theatrical presentation.”<\/p>\n

Star Trek: The Motion Picture<\/em> “became the fourth highest grossing of the year and earned three Academy Award<\/em> nominations, including Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction<\/em>, and Best Music, Original Score<\/em>.”<\/p>\n
