This weekend, at New York Comic Con<\/em>, the Trek news came thick and fast. An announcement provided the premiere date for Star Trek: Picard, and fans in attendance at the convention panel featuring the cast of the show got to see a new trailer. Plus: Six preview pictures from Star Trek: Picard<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The panel on Saturday featured Sir Patrick Stewart, Isa Briones<\/strong> (Dahj), Santiago Cabrera<\/strong> (Chris Rios), Michelle Hurd<\/strong> (Raffi Musiker), Alison Pill<\/strong> (Dr. Agnes Jurati), Harry Treadaway<\/strong> (Narek) and Evan Evagora<\/strong> (Elnor). Also in attendance were Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldman, Heather Kadin, Hanelle Culpepper, Kirsten Beyer<\/strong>, and moderator Vladimir Duthiers<\/strong> from CBS<\/em>.<\/p>\n

During the panel, Kadin talked about including other The Next Generation<\/em> characters on the new show. “A big concern was that we didn’t want it to be \u2013 and especially Patrick didn’t want it to be \u2013 a TNG<\/em> reunion show,” she said. “We only brought people back if their story really mattered to the story we were telling.<\/p>\n

“I don’t think the fans would have appreciated that. If we’re going to go to them, and they join a show that’s called Picard<\/em> we give them something significant to do. And I think you’ll see that each one of them has a pivotal, emotional story to tell in those ten episodes.”<\/p>\n

Several of the new actors spoke about their characters on the show. “Due to some traumatic events in his past in relation to Starfleet, [Rios has] stepped away [from the service],” said Cabrera. “So he’s very reticent to take on Picard when it’s proposed to him by his friend Raffi [Musiker, played by Michelle Hurd]. What’s really fun about my character \u2013 and I think I can speak for everyone \u2013 is that we’re sort of a band of misfits, a motley crew as we like to call ourselves. It’s a great group dynamic.”<\/p>\n

“We’re kind of like an odd couple,” said Evagora, who plays Elnor, one of two Romulans on the show. “They’re both very different. We’re both Romulans raised entirely differently. [Narek] was raised more typically as a Romulan \u2013 [Elnor] was raised very differently. He’s more secretive, lying… my character was raised to tell the truth. I don’t think he’s capable of telling a lie.”<\/p>\n

Star Trek: Picard<\/em> will make its debut on Thursday, January 23, 2020. The rest of the nine episodes of the first season will follow every Thursday on CBS All Access<\/em> (US), Bell Media<\/em>‘s CTV Sci-Fi Channel<\/em> (Canada) and Amazon Prime<\/em> (everyone else).<\/p>\n
