Yesterday, CBS Television Studios<\/em> and Star Trek Global Franchise Group<\/em> announced the Star Trek: The Pod Directive<\/em> podcast, which will premiere on Monday, September 14.<\/p>\n

“Announced earlier today by Tawny Newsome<\/strong> during the Star Trek: Lower Decks<\/em> panel as part of Star Trek Day<\/em>, Paul F. Tompkins<\/strong> (BoJack Horseman, Comedy Bang Bang<\/em>) joins Newsome as co-host on the podcast.<\/p>\n

“With unparalleled access to Star Trek luminaries, celebrity super-fans and behind-the-scenes creative professionals, Star Trek: The Pod Directive<\/em> takes a smart, witty and thoughtful look at all things ‘Trek’ \u2013 both old and new. Offering a high-level discussion of the themes, ideas and characters that resonate across the history of the franchise’s storied universe, episodes will also explore the brand’s fifty-plus-year legacy and influence. Each episode features an in-depth personal interview with a notable guest, coverage of a Star Trek<\/em> event or a discussion of a specific topic with one or more guests.<\/p>\n

“Guests will include Ben Stiller<\/strong> (actor\/producer), Reza Aslan<\/strong> (author\/commentator), Michelle Hurd<\/strong> (actor, Star Trek: Picard<\/em>), Kendra James<\/strong> (managing editor, StarTrek.com<\/em>), Angelica Bastien<\/strong> (staff writer, Vulture<\/em>), Mike McMahan<\/strong> (creator\/executive producer\/showrunner, Star Trek: Lower Decks<\/em>), Stacey Abrams<\/strong> (politician\/activist), Tig Notaro<\/strong> (comedian\/actor, Star Trek: Discovery<\/em>), Samantha Cristoforetti<\/strong> (ESA astronaut), Bill McKibben<\/strong> (author\/environmentalist\/activist) and Jeff Russo<\/strong> (producer\/composer, Star Trek: Picard <\/em>and Star Trek Short Treks<\/em>). New episodes will drop weekly on Mondays through Nov. 9.<\/p>\n

Tawny Newsome is a sketch\/improv comedian who wrote and performed her work on the Second City Mainstage<\/em> in Chicago, and co-hosts the popular comedy-meets-culture podcast Yo, Is This Racist?<\/em> Newsome has also appeared on IFC<\/em>‘s Brockmire, Bajillion Dollar Propertie$, The Carmichael Show, Documentary Now<\/em> and Sherman’s Showcase<\/em>, and currently voices Ensign Mariner on Star Trek: Lower Decks <\/em>for CBS All Access.<\/em><\/p>\n
