{"id":54359,"date":"2021-04-16T12:10:46","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T19:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=54359"},"modified":"2021-04-16T12:10:46","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T19:10:46","slug":"star-trek-prodigy-and-merchandising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2021\/04\/star-trek-prodigy-and-merchandising\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Trek: Prodigy And Merchandising"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While there has been plenty of <em>Star Trek<\/em> merchandise over the years, Star Trek hasn&#8217;t been as successful as franchises such as <em>Star Wars.<\/em> Part of the reason is that<em> Star Wars<\/em> was a family franchise while<em> Star Trek<\/em> wasn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>But <em>ViacomCBS<\/em> is hoping to change that, and <em>Star Trek: Prodigy<\/em> is the key to that change.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the aftermath of the 2019 merger of <em>Viacom<\/em> and <em>CBS<\/em>, the company set up committees of executives designed to find ways to exploit existing IP across multiple business sectors. A number of them are said to have engaged in a prolonged debate over whether the animated series<em> Star Trek: Prodigy<\/em>, originally ordered by <em>Nickelodeon<\/em>, would premiere first on the cabler\u2019s linear channels or on the <em>Nickelodeon<\/em>-branded portion of <em>Paramount Plus<\/em>.
