{"id":5454,"date":"2009-03-08T00:08:09","date_gmt":"2009-03-07T23:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.slipserver.com\/wordpress\/2009\/03\/combat-spock\/"},"modified":"2009-08-22T08:13:51","modified_gmt":"2009-08-22T15:13:51","slug":"combat-spock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2009\/03\/combat-spock\/","title":{"rendered":"Combat Spock?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sulu wasn&#8217;t the only character in <i>Star Trek XI<\/i> who was supposed to have a martial arts scene.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"http:\/\/scifiwire.com\/\">Sci Fi Wire<\/a>, Spock was originally slated to be in a hand-to-hand fight where he was outnumbered, according to <b>Zachary Quinto<\/b>. &#8220;There was originally in the film a sequence that was, I think it was, like, Spock against like six people hand-to-hand,&#8221; said Quinto. &#8220;And so I spent a lot of time learning this particular form of martial arts.&#8221;<!--more-->But it was not to be. &#8220;Literally two days before we were shooting it,&#8221; explained Quinto, &#8220;<b>J.J. [Abrams]<\/b> was like, &#8216;Yeah, we&#8217;re not going to do that. We&#8217;re not going to do that. It&#8217;s going to be a gunfight.&#8217; And I was like, &#8216;OK &#8230;&#8217; It has actually worked out better, though. J.J. is always with a mind toward balance.
