Susan Sackett<\/b>, former executive assistant to Star Trek<\/i> creator Gene Roddenberry<\/b>, will be speaking in Indiana this weekend on behalf of humanism.<\/p>\n
As reported by www.reporter-times.com<\/a>, Sackett will be appearing this weekend in Bloomington and Indianapolis, where she will discuss “Humanism in Star Trek.” “Gene Roddenberry was a humanist and this is a good way to tie the two topics together,” said Sackett, who worked for Roddenberry from 1974 until his death in 1991.Sackett is a board member of the American Humanist Association, as well as an author of ten books, including “Inside Trek: My Secret Life with Star Trek Creator Gene Roddenberry.” She now runs an electric bicycle shop in Tucson, Arizona, and travels throughout the country on behalf of humanism.<\/p>\n “Humanism is a rational philosophy without supernatural or superstitious beliefs,” said Sackett. “Roddenberry himself was an agnostic and a humanist. Humanism is the philosophy that reason, creativity, and our basic shared sense of ethics are all that is needed for humanity to improve its condition.”<\/p>\n Sackett is optimistic about Star Trek XI<\/i>, mostly due to her opinion of Director J.J. Abrams<\/b>, as well as trailers that she has seen.
