Chris Pine<\/b> has discovered that there are downsides to being known as the actor who took on the role of James T. Kirk.<\/p>\n
As reported by Men.Style.com\/<\/a>, playing a well-known character means taking ribbing from old friends. “It’s pretty f——g inescapable,” explained Pine. “I play basketball with a bunch of guys at 9:30 a.m. and it’s like, ‘Yo, wassup, Captain Kirk!’ I don’t have a smart comeback yet.” Another annoyance comes from the fanbase. “The amount of dissection of the minutiae of this movie…I was blown away by the protectiveness,” said Pine. “I’m definitely guilty of looking at the blogs, and I’m not a fan of the anonymity [of the Internet], how it allows people to just spew poisonous vitriol like vomit.”<\/p>\n A fan of Star Wars<\/i> as a child, Pine can nonetheless appreciate what Star Trek<\/i> tried to do. “The kitsch factor in the original Star Trek<\/i> series is high,” he said. “but the show manages to take on these huge questions about race, sex, and war. I have a great appreciation for what Mr. Shatner did with the part.
