{"id":7230,"date":"2009-09-01T15:33:05","date_gmt":"2009-09-01T22:33:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/?p=7230"},"modified":"2009-09-01T15:34:38","modified_gmt":"2009-09-01T22:34:38","slug":"kenney-disfigured-captain-pike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trektoday.com\/content\/2009\/09\/kenney-disfigured-captain-pike\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenney: Disfigured Captain Pike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7232\" title=\"090109Kenney\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trektoday.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/090109Kenney1.gif\" alt=\"090109Kenney\" width=\"200\" height=\"250\" \/>When Central Missouri Astronomical Association Treasurer <strong>Randall Durk<\/strong> phoned original series cast members in hopes of autographs, he got more than that for which he bargained when one of them showed up in person.<\/p>\n<p>A chance call to actors from the original series resulted in a surprise visit by <em>Star Trek: The Menagerie<\/em> guest star <strong>Sean Kenney<\/strong>, who gave a talk to a small group on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Kenney spoke about a variety of topics, ranging from his current projects to <em>Star Trek<\/em> and the film industry. Kenney and his wife Taki own a photography business and travel the country on business.<\/p>\n<p>Best-known to <em>Star Trek<\/em> fans for his role of the disfigured Christopher Pike, Kenney spoke about the experience. His part required hours in the futuristic wheelchair in an eighty-degree room, wearing heavy makeup. His hair which bleached until it began falling out and Kenney had surgical tape on his eyes and his mouth. Meals were eaten through a straw for more than a week and Kenney lost almost thirteen pounds in the process.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is my first job and I can&#8217;t blow this,&#8221; he remembered thinking. His patience was rewarded with appearances in two more episodes, <em>Arena<\/em> and <em>A Taste of Armageddon<\/em>, as Lt. DePaul.<\/p>\n<p>Since the debut of <em>Star Trek XI<\/em> with its version of Christopher Pike, attention has turned to Kenney again.
