Star Trek: Voyager<\/em>‘s Captain Janeway shared memories about her years on the show with a DragonCon audience this weekend.<\/p>\n

Kate Mulgrew<\/strong> relished playing the first female captain lead role on a Star Trek<\/em> show. “Just me and a lot of men, just the way I like it,” she said. “You don’t want to make me naughty; it never ends.<\/p>\n

It was not an easy time for Mulgrew and she explained that it was the toughest decade of her life. “[I gave] the best I could give” to Voyager<\/em>, she explained. “Certainly I tried [with] two little devils, I mean sons, at home.”<\/p>\n

Mulgrew explained that one can’t give twenty-four hours to a job and twenty-four hours to one’s family, something that women who aren’t in the acting profession have also discovered. “You do your best and forgive yourself. It’s diabolical.”<\/p>\n

But Mulgrew “loved science fiction” and “loved science, an exalted and different way of thinking.” She told the audience of a special meeting, where then-First Lady Hillary Clinton<\/strong> invited Mulgrew to speak to women scientists at the White House. Looking out at their “eager, upturned genuine faces, intelligent and impassioned,” was the “single greatest honor” during her tenure on Voyager<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
